The 2012 recipient of the Division II-III Assistant Coach of the Year award by the Greater Boston Gridiron Club, Pogarian joined MIT in 2007 as the running backs coach. Under his guidance, MIT set a single-game rushing record of 477 yards that season. For the 2008 and 2009 seasons he took over as the Engineers offensive coordinator and saw his unit set school records for points, touchdowns, first downs, rushing yards, total offense, and rushing TDs in 2008 before taking over coaching of the defensive line in 2010.

Prior to MIT, Pogarian was the offensive line coach and nearby Waltham High School from 2001-06 where he coached Mackenzy Bernadeau, who went on to play for the NFL's Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys. At the collegiate level, Pogarian has held positions of offensive line coach at Marist College and Westfield State University as well as the offensive coordinator at Dean College.

A 1991 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Pogarian was a four-year letter-winner for the Minutemen. A two-year starter at center, he was a member of three Yankee Conference championship teams as well as a pair of squads that played in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. Pogarian, a native of Natick, Massachusetts, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration while at UMass Amherst.
