Andy Byron enters his eighth season as an assistant coach with the MIT football team in 2025, coaching the defensive line. He came to MIT from Merrimack College (Mass.), where he was the linebackers coach for the 2017 season. In addition to his role with the football program, Byron serves as a sports performance assistant and works with all 33 intercollegiate athletic programs at MIT.

Prior to his time at Merrimack, Byron served as the defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coordinator at Maine Maritime Academy from 2014-2017. He was also an assistant coach at Springfield College (Mass.) from 2011-2014, where he coached the defensive backs, outside linebackers and was the video coordinator. His other coaching experience came at the high school level in 2010 as he was the quarterbacks and outside linebackers coach at Haverhill High School (Mass.).

A 2009 graduate of Springfield, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. He also went on to earn his Master of Education degree in student personnel administration from Springfield in 2013.
