Emily Cheng joined MIT’s coaching staff in 2024 following a three-year career playing for the Engineers.
Cheng graduated ranked third all-time at MIT in career assists per set (10.35) and sixth in career assists (2,814). She was a two-time AVCA All-America and All-Region selection. Cheng earned a spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team on two occasions and was named the 2022 NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player. She was voted to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Second Team and was a three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team qualifier.
MIT captured three NEWMAC Championships and qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year during Cheng’s career, including a pair of appearances in the Elite 8. For her efforts, she was named the 2021 Cambridge, Mass. Regional Most Outstanding Player and to the 2022 NCAA Tournament Medford, Mass. Regional All-Tournament Team.
A 2024 graduate, Cheng received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics as well as artificial intelligence and decision making. Cheng is currently pursuing a master’s degree in engineering and computer science at MIT.
