CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's lightweight crew team kicked off the 2014-15 season with several strong performances at the 50th Head of the Charles on Sunday. The Engineers began the day with a 10th place finish in the Lightweight Fours before their two entries in the Lightweight Eights captured ninth and 16th place.
The lightweight fours contingent held steady in 13th place for most of the race before climbing up three spots during the final stretch to produce a time of 17:56.43. In the lightweight eights competition, MIT's A boat secured sixth place through the first two splits before dipping to eighth at the Cambridge Boat Club. At the finish line, Princeton edged out the Engineers by one second, resulting in a ninth-place time of 15:23.20. The B boat, comprised of mostly underclassmen, had an impressive showing as its steady pace helped it complete the course in 16:23.86.
MIT continues its fall season on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Dartmouth Green Monster to be held on the Connecticut River in Hanover, N.H.
