CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing in their second dual meet of the season, the No. 11 MIT women's swimming and diving team earned wins against Babson College and Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center pool. Tech defeated the Beavers, 216-63, and Polar Bears, 198-93.
Freshman Joanna Han (Marlboro, N.J.) continued her success from last night's meet against Wellesley College by recording a NCAA B cut time in the 400-yard IM (4.36.38). Han's classmate – Amanda Wu (Cedar Park, Texas) – captured both the 100-yard breaststroke (1.07.22) and 200-yard breaststroke (2.24.50). Wu was also part of the Engineers' 400-yard freestyle relay team – made up of senior Emmie Ryan (Avon, Ind.), junior Lena Yang (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) and sophomore Veronika Jedryka (Arlington Heights, Ill.) – that finished first with a time of 3.35.12.
In the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Mary Thielking (Fishers, Ind.) recorded a career-best (1.55.12), finishing roughly a second ahead of Jedryka. Freshman Jessica Chen (Rockville, Md.) won both the 50-yard freestyle (24.77) and 200-yard IM (2.11.17).
Senior Jane He (Yardley, Pa.) finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (2.09.90), finishing two seconds ahead of junior Katherine Yu (San Jose, Calif.), who finished second, clocking a time of 2.11.37. Junior Sarah Osmulski (Rumson, N.J.) was also victorious in 100-yard butterfly, finishing first with a time of 58.89.
MIT returns to action on Friday, December 5 when they host the MIT Winter Invitational, which begins at 6:30 p.m. The three-day event concludes on Sunday, December 7 with the first session starting at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 5:30 p.m.
