MILTON, Mass. – Sophomore Alan Wang (Paoli, Pa.) hurled a one-hit shutout and senior Creed Mangrum (Sandy, Utah) tied a school record with three home runs to lead MIT past Curry College, 14-0, in a seven-inning non-conference baseball game this afternoon. The Engineers scored in every inning but one as they won their fourth straight game to improve to 14-8 while Curry fell to 6-22 with the loss.

Wang was in control the entire way, retiring the first 16 hitters in order before giving up a one-out single in the sixth to Derek Pizarro. Wang also hit a batter with two down in the inning, accounting for the only runners to reach against him in the contest. He struck out three and did not issue a walk as he improved to 3-1 this season. 

Mangrum provided all the offense that Wang would need, following a one-out walk in the first to junior Parker Tew (Chapel Hill, N.C.) with his first home run, a blast to right center that made it 2-0. MIT was held off the board in the second, but an RBI single from senior Patrick Dayton (Archer City, Texas) put the Engineers back in the scoring column in the third.

MIT then broke open the game with three runs each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.  Mangrum hit his second round tripper in the fourth, a three-run shot, to account for all of the runs in that inning. Seniors Sean Karson (Orlando, Fla.) and Jon Rea (Palo Alto, Calif.) along with sophomore Kendall Helbert (St. Louis, Mo.) drove in runs in the fifth, with Helbert adding a two-RBI double in the sixth. Mangrum completed the scoring for MIT in the seventh with his third blast of the day, a two-run drive down the line in right.

Sophomore Nate Rodman (Corvallis, Ore.) accounted for five of MIT's 20 hits, leading the Engineers with a perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate and scoring twice. Mangrum finished with a 3-for-5 day, while Karson, Rea and Helbert all picked up a pair of hits each. 

MIT will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play tomorrow when it host WPI on Briggs field starting at 3:30 p.m.
