NEW LONDON, Conn. – Competing in their first dual meet since November, the seventh-ranked MIT women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 181-53 victory against the United States Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon. Tech finished the day winning all 13 events and improved to 13-0 all-time against the Bears.

Senior Emmie Ryan (Avon, Ind.) captured three events, winning the 100 Yard Freestyle (54.18) and 200 Yard Freestyle (1:56.03). Ryan, who swam the final leg of the 400 Yard Freestyle – helped senior Michelle Cunningham (Wayland, Mass.), sophomore Veronika Jedryka (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and freshman Mary Thielking (Fishers, Ind.) place first with a time of 3:39.39.

In the 1000 Yard Freestyle, Thielking finished first in 10:41.65. She also captured the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:19.95). Jedryka touched the wall first in the 50 Yard Freestyle in 25.00, edging Coast Guard junior Patti Eidenrie (Miami, Fla.) by roughly half-a-second. Sophomore Madeleine Severance (Brookfield, Wis.) captured the 200 Yard Butterfly (2:14.66), while senior Jane He (Yardley, Pa.) won the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:13.87).

Next up, MIT travels to Tufts University next Saturday, January 17 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
