MEDFORD, Mass. – MIT women's swimming and diving - ranked seventh in the latest poll - earned their sixth straight dual meet victory by defeating Tufts University, 219-74, on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Pool. The victory marks the 12th time MIT has defeated the Jumbos since the season-series commenced during the 1975-76 season.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle, freshman Mary Thielking (Fishers, Ind.) recorded a first-place finish in 1:57.39, while also establishing a new pool record. Sophomore Veronika Jedryka (Arlington Heights, Ill.) also set a pool record in the 100 Yard Backstroke, touching the wall in 59.29.

Junior Lena Yang (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) captured the 50 Yard Freestyle (24.63), while also establishing a new pool record. Freshman Joanna Han (Marlboro, N.J.) touched the wall first in the 400 Yard IM (4:36.44). Her time created a new pool record, along with an NCAA B-cut, too.

Jedryka, Yang, senior Emmie Ryan (Avon, Ind.) and freshman Amanda Wu (Cedar Park, Texas) collaborated for a first place performance in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, recording a time of 1:38.78. Their time also instituted a new pool record. Ryan also captured the 1000 Yard Freestyle, while classmate Georgia Van de Zande (Raleigh, N.C.) placed fourth, but registered a personal best time of 11:16.20.

Freshman Christina Tournant (Seminole, Fla.) won both the 1 Meter (248.35) and 3 Meter (273.65). Her performances were good for NCAA Regional qualifying scores.

MIT returns to the pool on Friday, January 23 when they host Williams College at 5:30 p.m.
