CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Fielding boats comprised mostly of freshmen and sophomores, the MIT men's lightweight crew team turned in a pair of solid performances at the season-opening Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon. The Lightweight Fours and the Lightweight Eights both finished in 15th place in their respective events.
Taking to the water late in the afternoon, the Lightweight Fours reached the first checkpoint in 4:23.754 which put it in 14th place. Due to being passed by several crews, MIT was forced to take a longer course that caused it to slip to 15th where it stayed with a final time of 19.02.503. The Lightweight Eights also faced challenging positioning as it got caught on the outside of a large turn, resulting in some loss of time as it finished the three-mile course in 16:12.787.
Next up for MIT will be the intrasquad Spectacle Regatta on Wednesday, Nov. 4 followed by an appearance at the Dartmouth College Green Monster on Sunday, Nov. 8.
