SHENANDOAH, Texas – A strong performance by the MIT 200 Medley Relay unit highlighted the opening day for the women's swimming and diving team at the NCAA Division III Championships at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. Tech finished the first day tied for 12th place with Wellesley College out of 32 teams with a team score of 20 points.

Juniors Margaret Guo (San Diego, Calif.) and Lena Yang (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), sophomore Veronika Jedryka (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and freshman Jessica Chen (Rockville, Md.) collaborated for a 10th place performance in the Consolation Finals of the 200 Medley Relay, clocking a time of 1:44.35. Amherst College captured the Consolation Finals, finishing in ninth place with a time of 1:43.36. All four swimmers earned All-America honorable mention for their finish.

In the prelims of the 200 Medley Relay, Tech recorded a time of 1:44.28. Jedryka, who led off both heats, recorded a new school record on the opening leg with a time of 26.13.

Yang and freshman Amanda Wu (Cedar Park, Texas) each competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle Finals. Yang, who finished 13th touched the wall in 23.65, while Wu, who placed 15th, finished in 23.76. Both swimmers collected All-America honorable mentions. 

MIT returns to the pool tomorrow for the second day of competition, beginning at 11:00 a.m. eastern time, 10:00 central. Tech will compete in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, 100 Yard Butterfly and 400 Individual Medley, 400 Medley Relay.
