CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 5 MIT men's lightweight crew team generated a trio of third-place finishes as it hosted No. 1 Cornell University and No. 2 Columbia University in the Geiger Cup on Saturday morning.
Cornell retained the Geiger Cup by winning the varsity eight with a time of 6:18 as Columbia finished three seconds later with the Engineers crossing the line in 6:28. In the second varsity eight race, Cornell once again came away with the victory as it was seven seconds ahead of Columbia (6:40) and 12 seconds in front of MIT (6:45). Cornell's third varsity boat overpowered the field with a comfortable eight-second margin against Columbia (6:39.20) while the Engineers finished in 7:04.07.
Next up for MIT will be a trip to Philadelphia where it will compete in the Dad Vail Regatta on May 8-9.
