DERBY, Conn. – Racing on the Housatonic River, the MIT men's lightweight varsity 8+ was four tenths of a second shy of defeating host Yale at the Joy Cup on Saturday morning. The Engineers also secured runner-up finishes in the second varsity 8+ and third varsity 8+ events.
In the varsity 8+ race, Yale logged a time of 5:33.7, followed by MIT (5:34.1), and Georgetown (5:47.1). The Engineers crossed the second varsity 8+ finish line in 5:48.8, seven seconds ahead of Georgetown, with the Bulldogs claiming the victory in 5:37.8. In the final event of the day, the third varsity 8+, the Cardinal and Gray beat Georgetown by four seconds (6:02.6 – 6:06.8) but could not overtake Yale, which had a time of 5:46.8.
MIT returns to the Charles River on Saturday, April 11 when it hosts the Biglin Bowl.
