Cambridge, Mass.- Racing on the Charles River against Penn and Delaware, the MIT Men's Lightweight Crew team had a strong showing on Saturday morning.
In an 8:24 AM start, the V4 race saw Delaware take first in a time of 7:21.1, meanwhile MIT finished in third with a finishing time of 7:55.5. This was the first collegiate race for all members of the boat who rowed very well even with finishing fairly far back. The V4 did not get off of the line as the other more experienced crews, but showed a lot of promise, staying consistent and strong throughout.
The 2V race again ended with Delaware on top with a time of 6:16.7. MIT finished in third with a time of 6:44.6. Members of the 2V rowed very well, however were out powered by the other crews. Coach Oliver expects this boat's performance to improve in future weeks as members of the team return from injury.
The 1V race saw the closest of the morning with Penn coming away victorious in 6:06.1 and MIT finishing in third in a time of 6:16.7. MIT had an especially good start, getting up on both other crews off of the line. Through the middle of the race the other crews moved away just a bit, but MIT was able to show a good tenacity hanging on.
MIT returns to action when they travel to San Diego, California to compete at the San Diego Crew Classic running April 1-3.
