SAN DIEGO, Cali.- The Men's Lightweight Crew Team traveled to San Diego this weekend to compete at the San Diego Crew Classic. Racing at 11:16 Pacific Time on Saturday, the lightweight team raced a prelim in order to seed the final. The Engineers won the prelim in a time of 6:32.5, finishing more than two seconds ahead of second place University of Victoria. MIT really showed their speed, getting the lead early and commanding the race from start to finish.
After the Prelim, Cox Katie Sessa proclaimed, "it was a technically solid race that we're looking to improve upon and gain speed for tomorrow."
Racing in Sunday's final, race conditions were much tougher. The Engineers didn't quite get off to the start they would have liked and were behind for quite a while, making a move to the front in the middle of the race. At this point the Engineers never looked back, looking extremely strong and finishing first in a time of 6:43.3. University of Victoria placed 2nd in a time of 6:48.1.
After taking home the Men's Collegiate Lightweight Grand Final, the Engineers return to action this Saturday, April 9 when they host the Joy Cup.
