THE BASICS:
- Location: Boston, Mass. (Franklin Park)
- The Lead: Led by a sixth-place performance from junior All-American Dennis Maloney (New Albany, Ohio), the No. 12 ranked MIT men's cross country team finished second at the NEICAAA Championship on Saturday and claimed the D3 New England title with a total of 124 points. Maloney, who earned his first D3 New England title, led three MIT runners in the top 20. The Engineers are currently ranked No. 12 in the USTFCCCA Division II national rankings and second in the New England region.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Maloney crossed in a time of 25:29.7 to lead the Engineers as he ran a mile pace of 5:07.7 over the 8K course. Junior Josh Rosenkranz (Glencoe, Ill.) placed 14th in 25:39.1, followed by junior Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) in 17th place with a time of 25:41.9. Sophomore Billy Woltz (Logan, Ohio) was next for MIT in 34th place at 26:04.2, followed by sophomore Nate Foss (Alexandria, Va.) as the final scoring runner for the Engineers in 53rd place in a time of 26:25.
- The two displacers for the MIT varsity were senior Nicholas Waltman (Lexington, Ky.) in 75th at 26:45.7, followed by freshman Kent Slaney (Palo Alto, Calif.) in 85th place in a time of 26:53.3.
- In the sub-varsity race, MIT also finished second out of 14 teams with a total 69 points. Senior Alex Knoedler (Canon City, Colo.) was the leader for the Engineers with a time of 26:29.6 to finish in sixth, followed by senior David Walter (Middleville, Mich.) in seventh at 26:32.2. Sophomore Brian Bates (Corning, N.Y.) was the third MIT runner in 23rd at 26:58.9, along with a 27th-place finish by sophomore Jake Oeding (Bloomington, Ind.) in 27:05.2. The final scoring runner for the Engineers was freshman Jake Jorgensen (Devon, Pa.) in 31st place as he crossed in 27:10.8.
- The two displacers for the MIT sub-varsity group were freshman Dylan Doblar (San Jose, Calif.) in 35th place at 27:19.8, along with a 39th-place finish by senior Cooper Sloan (Sunnyvale, Calif.) in a time of 27:27.3.
UP NEXT:
- MIT is back in action on Saturday, October 14th as the Engineers travel to Elsah, Ill. for the Cowbell Classic. The meet is hosted by Principia College and is the site of the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championship. The men's race begins at 11 a.m., while the women's race is a 12:15 p.m. start.
