THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 8, No. 7 Tufts 8

- The Lead: In a game that was called in the 10th inning, the MIT baseball team rallied with a run in the ninth inning to tie No. 7 ranked Tufts University on Thursday afternoon at Huskins Field. The Engineers had a runner in scoring position in the top of the 10th inning before the umpires called the game a tie as daylight was fading.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Tufts jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before MIT settled down and answered with three runs in the top of the third. Sophomore Jared Schwait (Boca Raton, Fla.) reached on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI single to left by junior Garrett Greenwood (Edmond, Okla.) for the first run. Junior Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) scored on an RBI single by freshman Matt Johnston (Portola Valley, Calif.), along with Greenwood scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game.

- The Jumbos countered with three runs in the bottom of the third as Tommy O'Hara had a two-run homer to right and Nick Falkson launched a solo homer to left to make it a 6-3 margin. MIT cut the lead down to two at 7-5 in the fourth as freshman Tony Rice (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Schwait scored on groundouts, while the Jumbos scored on a Harrison Fri run on a double play. 

- MIT eventually made it a one-run game in the eighth as Filiere's RBI triple to right center scored sophomore Alec Kushner (Cooper City, Fla.), followed by Filiere scoring on a single up the middle from Greenwood. Trailing 8-7 heading to the ninth, Johnston earned a leadoff walk and later scored on a single to left center by Kushner. 

- In the top of the 10th, Filiere picked up an infield hit and later moved to second before the game was called due to darkness.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Filiere was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks, while Greenwood was 3-for-6 with runs batted in. Kushner and junior Max Lancaster (Attleboro, Mass.) also both had two hits, while Schwait scored twice.

- Sophomore Patrick Callahan (Vicksburg, Mich.) took the start for the Engineers, while sophomore Nick Charchut (Santa Monica, Calif.) threw four innings of two-hit relief with five strikeouts to highlight the MIT pitching. For Tufts, O'Hara was 1-for-2 with three walks, three RBI and two runs scored while Mike McLaughlin was 2-for-5.

UP NEXT:

- MIT returns to action on Friday, April 14th as the Engineers travel to Babson College for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 3:30 p.m. The teams complete the three-game series on Saturday afternoon as the Beavers visit Cambridge for a doubleheader beginning at Noon at Fran O'Brien Field.
