Baseball Falls at Endicott on Tuesday in 7-3 Non-Conference Game

THE BASICS:

- Records: MIT (15-14-1); Endicott College (19-13)

- Scores: Endicott College 7, MIT 3

- Location: Beverly, Mass. (North Field)

- The Lead: On Tuesday afternoon, the MIT baseball team dropped a 7-3 non-conference final to Endicott College as the Engineers fell to 15-14-1 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT jumped on top first with a single run in the third as junior Tony Rice (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored on a sacrifice fly to left by senior Jared Schwait (Boca Raton, Fla.). After the Gulls answered with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third, the hosts took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth on another sac fly by Ryan Prosser that scored Kyle Brennan. Brennan reached on a single up the middle to lead off the inning.

- Endicott scored twice in the sixth to make it 4-1 before sophomore Zach Roberts (West Chester, Pa.) homered to left center with one out in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-2. The Gulls answered in the bottom of the inning though with three runs on four hits to push the game to 7-2 before MIT answered again in the ninth.

- In the top of the ninth, Roberts drew an RBI walk to drive in senior Alec Kushner (Cooper City, Fla.) as the Engineers fell by the 7-3 final margin. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Junior Matt Johnston (Portola Valley, Calif.) and first-year Cory O'Shea (Glen Allen, Va.) each had two hits, while the Gulls had four players with two hits each and Jordan Carvalho had three runs batted in.

- In relief, junior Zack Kopstein (Tiburon, Calif.) went 2.2 innings with five hits and one run allowed to drop to 2-2 overall.

- Endicott's Cooper Anibal got the start and went five innings with four hits and one run to go with four strikeouts as he is now 2-0.

- MIT is returns to action on Wednesday, April 24th as the Engineers host WPI for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
