The Lead: Senior
Kyle Sandell (Mountain View, Calif.) set a program record with 10 goals in MIT's 17-9 victory over Augustana and added five more in the Engineers 19-4 win over Washington & Jefferson as MIT advances to the D3 Eastern Championship match and qualifies for the national championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE vs. Augustana
Â
- The Vikings scored the first goal of the quarter before MIT scored the next four to take a 4-1 lead going into quarter two. Sandell scored three of the Engineer goals while sophomore
Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) scored the other goal for MIT.
Â
- Sandell got his fourth goal of the match to open the second quarter and make it a 5-1 Engineer lead before the Vikings scored the next two goals to cut the MIT lead to 5-3.
Â
- Goals from Sandell and
Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) at 2:18 and 1:18 put MIT back in the lead by a score of 7-3.

- The Engineers offense erupted for six goals in the third including three from Sandell, two from Geschke and one from first-year
Jack King (Los Altos, Calif.) to take a 13-5 lead into the final quarter.

- Sandell added two more goals in the fourth and goals from Geschke and King that held off Augustana which scored four times in the quarter, but it would not be enough to overtake MIT as the Engineers won the game 17-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME Two vs. Washington & Jefferson
Â
- The Engineers seemingly put the game out of hand in the first quarter, posting six goals while holding W&J scoreless. Geschke scored three of the Engineers goals while first-year
Richard Yun (Irvine, Calif.) and senior
John Steele (Old Greenwich, Conn.) also got into the scoring column.
Â
- MIT extended its lead to 8-0 on goals from Sandell and Geschke before the Presidents finally got their first score of the game to make it 8-1 but the Engineers scored the next four goals to take a 12-1 lead.

- W&J got another score in the third but Steele, King and Sandell scored to put MIT up 15-2.
Â
- The teams combined to score six goals in the final quarter with the Engineers scoring four times and W&J adding two to seal the 19-4 MIT win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Against the Vikings, sophomore
Colin Weaver (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made nine saves in goal while adding two assists.
Â
- Sandell finished the day with 15 goals to bring his season total to 50 while Geschke finished with eight goals to bring his season total to 50 goals.
Â
- The four goals allowed against W&J were the fewest allowed by the Engineers this season and the 19 goals matched a season-high.
