Water Polo Drops Saturday Matches

THE BASICS:
 
- Scores: No. 8 MIT –10, St. Francis Brooklyn - 20
                No. 8 MIT - 4, Princeton - 14         
 
- Records: MIT (7-13), St. Francis Brooklyn (12-4), Princeton (20-6)
 
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Zesiger Center Pool)
 
- The Lead: The MIT water polo team dropped two tough matches on Saturday to St. Francis Brooklyn and Princeton.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One vs. St. Francis Brooklyn
 
- SFB took a 4-2 lead after the first quarter as MIT got scores from seniors Kaden DiMarco (Eugene, Ore.) and Kyle Sandell (Mountain View, Calif.).
 
- After back-to-back goals from Sandell tied the game at four in the second quarter, St. Francis scored the next four to take an 8-4 lead into the half.
 
- The second half was controlled by the visitors as they outscored MIT 12-6 in the final two frames to take the 20-10 victory.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two vs. Princeton
 
- The first quarter was tightly contested with both teams scoring three times in the first eight minutes of action. Sandell led the way for MIT with two goals while first-year Jack King (Los Altos, Calif.) added another.
 
- Princeton began to pull ahead in the second quarter, outscoring MIT 4-1 in the frame. DiMarco scored the only goal for the Engineers.
 
- The Tigers took control in the second half, not allowing MIT to score as they took home the 14-4 win.
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Sandell led MIT with five goals in game one while DiMacrco added two goals. Senior Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.), senior John Steele (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) also added goals in the match.
 
- In game two, Sandell led the way with two scores with DiMarco and King also scoring in the match.
 
- Sandell now leads MIT with 60 goals this season while Geschke brought his season total to 54.

- MIT is right back at it as the Engineers will host Iona College tomorrow, October 31 at 10 a.m.
