- The Lead: The MIT men's water polo team rallied in the second-half against Iona on Sunday morning, however, the Gales made a comeback of their own to defeat the Engineers 15-14 in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Iona scored the first two goals of the match before goals from seniors Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) and Kyle Sandell (Mountain View, Calif.) got the Engineers even.

- Sandell gave MIT the lead with his second goal of the contest at 7:21 but the MIT lead was short-lived as Iona tied it up at 6:20. Sandell quickly put the Engineers back on top with a score at 6:09, but the Gales scored the next three to take a 6-4 lead going into the halftime break.

- Iona continued to add to its lead, registering two more goals in the third to take an 8-4 lead. Senior Kaden DiMarco (Eugene, Ore.) ended the Gales scoring run with a goal at 5:37 which sparked a 4-0 MIT run that gave the Engineers a 9-8 lead.

- The Gales got back even with a goal from Mohamed Refatt at 1:01 but sophomore Evan Kowal (South Pasadena, Calif.) gave the Engineers the lead right back before Justin Ginsberg tied the game at 10 with 27 seconds remaining in the third.

- Goals from Kowal and senior John Steele (Old Greenwich, Conn.) gave MIT a 12-10 advantage in the fourth before two goals from Iona tied the match and sent the two teams into overtime.

- The Gales got the only goal in the first three-minute overtime and added another in the second to go up 14-12 before a goal from Sandell made it a one-score game. Iona added a score with 29 seconds remaining to take a 15-13 advantage but with 12 seconds remaining, Geschke scored to bring MIT back to within one, but the Engineers could not get the ball back for another change as Iona secured the 15-14 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sandell led the way with five goals while Steele finished with three on the day. Geschke, Kowal and DiMarco each added two goals in the match.
