Balanced Scoring Leads Field Hockey Past Clark in 9-0 Final

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT 9, Clark University 0
 
- Records: MIT (7-4, 3-1 NEWMAC); Clark University (2-9, 0-4 NEWMAC)

- The Lead: Led by a hat trick from junior Paige Forester (Glencoe, Ill.) and two goals each from seniors Liv Parsons (Leesburg, Va.) and Lucy Kitch-Peck (Bethlehem, Pa.), the MIT field hockey team picked up a 9-0 home win over Clark University on Tuesday night in NEWMAC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Forester found the net twice in the opening 5:55 of the game as she notched a pair of unassisted tallies. Parson notched her first career goal at the 7:24 mark off a great crossing pass from junior Liberty Ladd (Falmouth, Maine), followed by a goal off a penalty corner by sophomore Lydia Patterson (Houston, Texas) that was also assisted on by Ladd.
 
- The final goal of the first quarter and the first goal of the second both came from Kitch-Peck via a penalty stroke. These marked her first career goals and the first penalty strokes of the season for the Engineers.
 
- Senior Emily Genevriere (San Jose, Calif.) got in on the action with a goal from just inside the circle for the 7-0 advantage before Forester capped off her third hat trick of the season with 8:57 remaining before halftime.
 
- After a scoreless third quarter, Parsons closed out the game with her second goal at the 52:45 mark to account for the 9-0 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Through 11 games, Forester leads the NEWMAC in goals (17), assists (8), points (42) and shots (67).
 
- Overall, MIT outshot the Cougars by a 25-2 margin, including 19-1 in shots on goal. In addition, the Engineers held an 8-3 edge in penalty corners.
 
- Grace Sawyer made 10 stops for the Cougars in the loss, while senior Juliana Strother (Mequon, Wis.) and senior Kiely Smiga-McManus (Etna, N.H.) each played 30 minutes in net for MIT. Strother picked up her seventh win of the season, while Smiga-McManus had the lone save for the Engineers.
 
- Tonight's game was the 50th all-time meeting between the two teams as the Engineers hold a 27-23 lead in the series with the Cougars.

- MIT is back in action on Saturday, October 9th as the Engineers host Mount Holyoke College for a 1 p.m. start.
