THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 5 MIT – 1, Babson - 0

- Records: MIT (12-0-1, 4-0-0 NEWMAC), Babson (5-5-1, 1-2-0 NEWMAC)

- Location: Babson Park, Mass. (Hartwell-Rodgers Field)

- The Lead: The fifth-ranked MIT women's soccer team continued its conference unbeaten streak as the Engineers defeated Babson, 1-0 on the road on Wednesday afternoon. Kaitlin Zareno had the game-winning goal for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT got on the board quickly once again as junior Stephanie Howe (Geneva, Ill.) won the ball in the backfield and sent a pass over to classmate Kaitlin Zareno (Montebello, Calif.) who lifted a 25-yard floater towards the back post just off the fingertips of Babson goaltender Morgan Fedosiewich for her fourth goal of the year at 5:20.

- The Beavers had an opportunity to even the score in the 25th minute on a free kick by Katie Korzec that went past the Engineers' defense, but the shot went wide keeping MIT in the lead.

- Senior Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) had two excellent opportunities to give MIT some insurance goals with a shot in the 54th minute that went just wide, and another chance in the 82nd minute when her shot from the top of the box also went just wide of the cage.

- The Beavers put on the pressure in the game's final four minutes but junior Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) turned away both chances to preserve the shutout win for MIT.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Engineers are now unbeaten in their last 12 matches against the Beavers as the team extended its conference unbeaten streak to 43 games.

- MIT held an 18-5 edge in shots including an 8-3 advantage in shots on net.

- Castle moves to 5-0-0 on the season, earning her third shutout of the year.
