- The Lead: Despite a career-high 33-point, 16, rebound, six-assist performance by senior
Giannis Chatziveroglou (Athens, Greece), the MIT men's basketball team dropped an 89-87 road final to UMass Dartmouth in overtime on Thursday afternoon in non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After the Corsairs built to a 16-7 lead early on by three-pointer from
Jake Ashworth, MIT came charging back with an 13-4 run that made it 20-18 in favor of the visitors. The remainder of the half was back-and-forth between the two teams as the pair headed to the halftime break tied at 37-37.

- Midway through the second half, the Engineers led 67-50 following a three by sophomore
Charles Rich (Holladay, Utah) and continued to hold a seven-point lead with 2:35 left in regulation after a layup from Chatziveroglou. After a three-point play by Ashworth and four points to close out the half by
Marcus Azor, the game headed into over knotted at 79-79.

- In the overtime, MIT again charged out to a lead at 87-82 with 2:51 left before the Corsairs countered with the 7-0 run to claim the win. Ashworth knocked down a three and hit a pair of free throws, while the game-winning hoop came off the hands of Azor with 1:14 remaining.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- In addition to the showing by Chatziveroglou, Rich added 17 points to go along with a 14-point, 13-assist double-double from junior
Alex Cho (San Diego, Calif.). Senior
Dan Pilsbury (Millington, N.J.) also added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 38 minutes.

- For UMD, Ashworth led the way with 25 points and was followed by 23 points from
Adam Seablom and a 17-point, 10-assist, eight-rebound outing by Azor.
