Men's Basketball Holds On For 75-72 Win Over Endicott

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 75, Endicott 72

- Records: MIT (3-2); Endicott (2-1)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Rockwell Cage)

- The Lead: Led by four players in double figures and 50 percent shooting from the field, MIT rallied from a late deficit in the final minutes to pull out a 75-72 win over visiting Endicott on Tuesday night. The Engineers led by as many as 11 in the first half before the Gulls rallied to take a brief lead late in the second half before the hosts answered with the game-winning surge.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Leading from the early moments of the game, MIT built to a double-digit lead at 24-13 midway through the first following a layup by senior Dan Pilsbury (Millington, N.J.). The Gulls hung tough though and forced some MIT misses with good defense as Endicott cut the lead down to four at 29-25 after a layup from Stephen Fama.

- Back-to-back threes from senior Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.) and first-year Kade Killeen (Austin, Texas) pushed the lead back to 11 at 37-26 with 1:31 left before MIT took the 39-31 edge into the half.

- MIT held a comfortable lead over the first 10 minutes of the second half before a quick 5-0 EC run, capped by a three from Jalen Echevarria that pulled the Gulls to within 57-56. Endicott's offensive pressure paid off and the Gulls took a 63-62 lead with 6:36 left on a three from Cameron Ray and the teams traded the lead a couple of times over the remainder of regulation.

- Endicott led by as many as three, including at 72-69, before the Engineers rallied. After a Pilsbury free throw to make it a 72-70 margin, Killeen knocked down a three from the corner to put MIT back up at 73-72 with just 33 seconds left. After an Endicott miss and a rebound by Killeen, the Gulls were forced to foul and senior Giannis Chatziveroglou (Athens, Greece) knocked down two free throws and picked off a late pass to seal with three-point victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Hinkley led the Engineers with 18 points as he knocked down five three-pointers to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Junior Alex Cho (San Diego, Calif.) and Pilsbury each added 11 and Killeen added 10 in 19 minutes off the bench. As a team, the Engineers shot 50 percent from the field and were 10-of-22 from three-point land while forcing 16 turnovers that were converted into 23 points on the other end.

- Echevarria used a 14-for-15 free throw shooting performance to lead all scorers with 27 points in 38 minutes for Endicott. Ray and Billy Arsenault were also in double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively. Fama was the game's top rebounder with 12 boards to lead the Gulls to a commanding 40-27 rebounding advantage for the game.

UP NEXT:

- The Engineers return to action on Saturday, November 20th as the team travels across the river to take on Division I Harvard University for an exhibition game beginning at 2 p.m. at Lavietes Pavilion.
