The Lead: The MIT water polo team concluded the regular season with a 17-10 defeat against Brown on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Engineers took held the lead throughout the first quarter as senior
Kyle Sandell (Mountain View, Calif.) put three balls in the back of the net while senior
John Steele (Old Greenwich, Conn.) added another to give MIT a 4-3 advantage heading into the second.
- The Bears got a goal at 6:22 to make it a one-score game before senior
Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) scored to give MIT a 5-3 advantage.
- Brown scored three-straight to pull ahead by one, but senior
Kaden DiMarco (Eugene, Ore.) scored twice to break up the Brown scoring. The Bears would outscore MIT 7-3 in the third to take 10-7 lead into the break.
- The Bears continued to build on the lead in the third, outscoring MIT 5-2 to go ahead, 15-9. The Engineers got goals from Geschke and Steele in the quarter.
- Brown sealed the game in the fourth with two more goals while holding the Engineers to a goal from Geschke with 49 seconds left to take a 17-10 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Geschke and Sandell led the way with three goals each. Geschke also added three assists in the match.
- Junior
Conrad Oakes (Pasadena, Calif.) made 12 saves in the match with an assist.
- First-year
Jack King (Los Altos, Calif.) led MIT with three steals while Sandell followed with two.
- Sandell leads MIT with 74 goals this season while Geschke ranks second with 71 while leading the team with 52 assists and 64 steals.
