Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Nets Six in 6-0 Victory over Lesley

First-Years Barnouw and Sedgwick Led the Way For MIT

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 7 MIT – 6  , Lesley - 0

- Records: MIT (3-0-1); Lesley (4-1-1)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium)

- The Lead:  The MIT women's soccer team used a five-goal second-half en route to a decisive 6-0 victory over Lesley on Friday night. It was a breakout game for a number of first-years as Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the way with five points (1g, 3 ast.) and Mia Sedgwick (Wilmette, Ill.) added two goals in the contest for the Engineers who continue their home unbeaten streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Sedgwick broke a scoreless tie about halfway through the first, taking a nice touch pass from Barnouw and putting it into the corner of the net at 20:42.

- The Engineers defense was strong once again, thwarting many potential scoring opportunities by the Lynx in the half.

- Sedgwick and Barnouw teamed up again for a goal in the second half as Barnouw found Sedgwick in front of the net for the score at 52:16 to put the Engineers up 2-0.

- Barnouw continued to set up her teammates as she placed a perfect pass to Stephanie Howe (Geneva, Ill.) for the header at 53:43 to give MIT a three-goal advantage.

- At 71:07 Kaitlin Zareno (Montebello, Calif.) set up Brigette Wang (Clarksville, Md.) for the fifth goal of the evening for the Engineers.

- Barnouw then got herself into the goal column with a beautifully placed shot off a corner kick in the 82nd minute to make it 5-0 MIT.

- Emmi Mills (Kensington, Md.) later set-up Lexi Spinetta (Austin, Texas) for her first goal of the season at 84:21 as MIT closed the game out to take a 6-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- This is the Engineers third-straight shutout at home this season.

- Barnouw now leads the team with eight points on the season.

- Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) registered the shutout win in goal to improve to 2-0 this season.
