THE BASICS:
 
- Score: No. 3 Tufts University 4, No. 20 MIT 0

- The Lead: Three goals in the first half propelled nationally-ranked No. 3 Tufts University to a 4-0 win over No. 20 MIT in a non-conference field hockey game on Tuesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- 8th Minute (7:59) – Tufts 1, MIT 0: After Melissa Manzello inserted the ball on a penalty corner, she went to the left post while a shot by Reegan McCluskey was saved by senior goalie Juliana Strother (Mequon, Wis.). Sophie Schoeni directed the rebound to Manzello for the goal.
 
- 24th Minute (23:39) – Tufts 2, MIT 0: Marin Waddington took the ball along the end line on the right side of the goal and went to the cage where she flicked a shot that just crossed the goal line.
 
- 29th Minute (28:44) – Tufts 3, MIT 0: On a penalty corner, Manzello inserted to McCluskey on the far side. She fired a pass across the circle to Schoeni who drilled the ball inside the left post.
 
- 51st Minute (50:25) – Tufts 4, MIT 0: Beth Krikorian took Manzello's insert on a corner at the top of the arc and sent a blast to the cage.
 
- MIT's best opportunity to score came in the 45th minute on a shot by first-year Ashley Lederman (Villanova, Pa.), but it went just wide of the left post.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Tufts held a 14-7 advantage in shots, a 10-3 margin in shots on goal, and a 7-6 edge in penalty corners.
 
- Strother made three saves in the first half as senior Kiely Smiga-McManus (Etna, N.H.) generated three saves during the final 30 minutes of action.
