Water Polo Falls to Air Force and Brown

Miller Geschke led the way for the Engineers

THE BASICS:
 
- Scores: MIT – 8, Air Force – 13; MIT – 8, Brown - 16
 
- Records: MIT (2-4), Air Force (11-1), Brown (7-6)
 
- Location: Providence, R.I. (Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center)
 
- The Lead: The MIT water polo team dropped two tough matches on Saturday afternoon to Air Force and Brown on the campus of Brown University.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE vs. AIR FORCE:
 
- After a close first quarter of play, Air Force took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Engineers 5-1 to take a 7-2 lead.

- MIT started to get back into the game in the third, as two goals by senior Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) and a goal from senior Kaden DiMarco (Eugene, Ore.) made it a 9-5 match.
 
- Senior Kyle Sandell (Mountain View, Calif) scored early in the fourth to make it a three-goal contest, but the Falcons responded with back-to-back goals to make it an 11-6 contest.
 
- DiMarco scored again at 4:10 to make it a 11-7 game, but Air Force responded again to make it 12-7.
 
- The Engineers got another goal from Sandell at 1:30 but another Air Force goal sealed the win for the Falcons.
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- DiMarco and Geschke each scored three goals on the game while Sandell added two goals for the Engineers.
 


HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO vs. BROWN:
 
- The Engineers, playing their second match of the day against Brown playing its first, fell behind early. 3-1, but two goals from Geschke followed by scores from Sandell and Richard Yun (Irvine, Calif.) put the Engineers up 4-3.
 
- The Bears responded with three-straight goals to take a 6-4 lead and then used a seven-goal third quarter to pull ahead 13-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
- Greschke and John Steele (Old Greenwich, Conn.) tallied goals in the fourth for MIT, but Brown secured the 16-8 win.
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Geschke led the way again for MIT with four goals while Yun tallied two in the contest.
 

UP NEXT:
 
- The Engineers are back in the pool next weekend as they will take on St. Francis Brooklyn at 10 a.m. followed by Iona at 4 p.m. on Saturday October 2nd.
