Field Hockey Defeats New England College, 2-0

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT 2, New England College 0

- The Lead: Junior Paige Forester (Glencoe, Ill.) scored both of MIT's goals in a 2-0 victory at New England College on Wednesday night. With the win, the Engineers improved to 6-3 on the year as they registered their third shutout of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- 18th Minute (17:46) – MIT 1, NEC 0: First-year Ashley Lederman (Villanova, Pa.) sent a through ball past the New England College defense and found Forester, who dangled around the NEC keeper to score.
 
- 44th Minute (43:09) – MIT 2, NEC 0: Forester backhanded a shot into the upper left corner of the cage.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- MIT ended the game with advantages in shots (21-10), shots on goal (11-2), and penalty corners (6-3).
 
- Seniors Juliana Strother (Mequon, Wis.) and Kiely Smiga-McManus (Etna, N.H.) split the game in net. Strother turned away two shots in the first half while Smiga-McManus faced six shots and three penalty corners but wasn't forced to make a save. This was the second game in a row the duo collaborated for a shutout.
 
- This was the first meeting since between both programs since 2013. MIT leads the series, 7-5, with NEC's last win occurring in 2008.

- MIT concludes its road trip on Saturday, Oct. 2 when visits NEWMAC foe No. 13 Babson College for a 12:00 p.m. game.
