No. 5 Women's Soccer Defeats Worcester State, 4-1

Three Engineers registered a goal and assist in the contest

THE BASICS:
- Score: No. 5 MIT – 4, Worcester State - 1
- Records: MIT (10-0-1) Worcester State (5-4-1)
- Location: Worcester, Mass. (John F. Coughlin Field)
- The Lead: Natalie Barnouw, Karenna Groff and Kaitlin Zareno each tallied a goal and an assist to help lead the No. 5 ranked MIT women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Worcester State University on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Karenna Groff sent a pass in to junior Kaitlin Zareno (Montebello, Calif.) who buried it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season and the first for the Engineers in the game at 11:06.

- MIT put together some beautiful passing to set up its second goal of the game as first-year Mia Sedgwick (Wilmette, Ill.) sent a pass to Zareno who quickly got the ball to first-year Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) who completed the play with her fifth goal of the season at 12:08.

- The Lancers cut the MIT lead in half with a goal at 41:20 as Kristen Beidleman got a pass into Maddie Breuer for the score.

- Senior Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) put the Engineers back up by two with her third goal of the season at 74:55.

- As time was winding down in the game, MIT tacked on another score when Barnouw sent a pass to sophomore Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) who put the ball into the back of the net at 87:54 to give the Engineers a 4-1 advantage.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The goal by the Lancers was the first given up by the Engineers since September 12 (five games).

- MIT put 22 shots on net in the contest.

- Barnouw leads the team with 16 points on the year while Rowlett and Sedgwick are tied for second with 12 points.

- Junior Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) notched the win in net making two saves to improve to 4-0 on the year.

UP NEXT:

- The Engineers are back on Roberts Field on Saturday, October 2nd as MIT will host Wheaton College at 1 p.m. in NEWMAC action.
