THE BASICS:
- Score: No. 7 MIT - 1, Johnson & Wales - 0
- Records: MIT (2-0-1); Johnson & Wales (2-2-0)
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium)
- The Lead: The MIT women's soccer team continued its home winning streak as a late first half goal by sophomore Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) and excellent defense gave the Engineers a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Johnson & Wales on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team was able to create much offense early on in the contest as booth teams played excellent defense in the first half.
- The Engineers finally broke through in the 44th minute as freshman Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wisc.)  stole the ball from a Wildcat player and sent a beautiful pass over to Rowlett who sent a low but powerful shot into the far corner of the net.
- Rowlett and the Engineers had some opportunities in the second half to extend their lead, but JWU netminder, Carly McCrub made some excellent saves to keep it a one-goal game.
- The Engineer defense, led in part by sophomore Julia Chen (La Jolla, Calif.)  was able to preserve the shutout win with the defense not allowing a shot ono goal the entire game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- This is just the second meeting between the two programs, with the Engineers capturing the first meeting in 2019.
- Rowlette now has two goals on the season while the assist was the first collegiate point for English.
- Ava Gillikin (Flemington, N.J.) earned her first shutout victory of the season.
