- The Lead: Led by four players in double figures, the MIT men's basketball team picked up its first NEWMAC victory of the season with a 73-60 home win over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday night. Senior
Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.) paced the Engineers with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double as he also added four assists in 32 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and built that advantage to 15-8 with 12:32 left in the first on a three from Hinkley. A jumper from senior
Giannis Chatziveroglou (Athens, Greece) extended the edge to double digits at 29-18 and MIT continued to lead by 12 with 3:11 remaining before halftime.

- Coast Guard closed the first half strong as
Garrett Drummond drilled a three, followed by a three from
Jack Brunswick that made it a 33-27 game at the 2:06 mark. The teams traded baskets over the rest of the period before MIT took the 35-29 edge into the half.

- The Bears kept up the pressure and pulled to within four at 41-37 after another Drummond three-pointer. The Engineers counted with a 10-3 run to move back to an 11-point advantage and led by at least five the rest of the way. Coast Guard managed to pull within 62-57 with just under three minutes remaining before a strong closing stretch by the hosts accounted for the 13-point final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- In addition to Hinkley's double-double, Chatziveroglou posted a 16-point, eight-rebound, six-assist performance. Junior
Alex Cho (San Diego, Calif.) added 11 points and six rebounds, with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from senior
Dan Pilsbury (Millington, N.J.).

- For the Bears, Drummond led all scorers in the game with 18 point to go along with 12 from Brunswick and 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench by
Tyler Perez.

- MIT finished the game with 23 assists on 30 made field goals, while the Bears posted 13 assists on 21 made field goals. The Engineers also shot well from the field at 52.6 percent for the game, including 6-of-8 from three.
