No. 17 Women's Soccer Topples Wheaton, 4-0

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 4, Wheaton - 0
 
- Records: No. 17 MIT (8-2-1, 3-0-0 NEWMAC), Wheaton (4-5-1, 1-2 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: Wheaton, Mass. (Mirrione Stadium)
 
- The Lead: The 17th-ranked MIT women's soccer team put up four second-half goals as the Engineers took down Wheaton College on the road on Saturday afternoon in NEWMAC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Neither team got a goal in the first 45 minutes of action. The Engineers put four shots on net during the first half, but Wheaton keeper Patricia Bandrup turned them all away.
 
- MIT broke the scoreless tie at 53:28 when junior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) sent a pass to sophomore Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) outside the box and placed a shot into the bottom left corner for the goal. 
 
- Senior Ceci Muñoz (Maplewood, N.J.) took advantage of Bandrup outside the box and put a shot into the bottom corner at 79:58.
 
-  Graduate student Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) put a pass from the right side of the field over to Rowlett who put the ball into the bottom left corner to make it a 3-0 match at 81:16.
 
- With three seconds left Groff fired a shot from the top of the box into the bottom left corner of the net to make it 4-0 MIT.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Rowlett leads the team with six goals and 15 points, and her three assists are second on the team.
 
- Groff has a team-high four assists and ranks second on the team in goals (five) and points (14). She now has 46 career goals and 116 career points.
 
- English now has four goals this season, and Muñoz has three.
 
- Senior Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) notched her sixth win in goal with one save in the contest.
 
- The Engineers' defense allowed four shots with one on goal. The MIT offense generated 31 shots with 15 on target.
 
- MIT had nine corner kicks, and the Lyons did not earn one in the game.
 
UP NEXT:
 
- MIT returns to Roberts Field for a pivotal NEWMAC contest against Babson with both teams entering the game with perfect conference records. The conference rivals will kick off on Wednesday, October 5th at 4 p.m.
