The Lead: The MIT men's lightweight crew team kicked off the year with a strong showing at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday. In their debut appearance, the Engineers placed second, ninth, and 14
th in the Collegiate 8+ and sixth in the Collegiate 4+.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Starting last in each race, three of MIT's boats passed multiple crews while all of its entries had consistent and strong rows. In addition, the 2V and 3V defeated several 1V and 2V squads from other schools.
- In the Collegiate 4+, the Engineers logged a time of 16:01.162 for sixth place out of 15 entries. The performance was 3.37 seconds behind fifth-place UMass Amherst but 3.2 seconds ahead of Gordon College.
- In a field of 29 boats, the 1V was 2.207 seconds behind first-place Holy Cross in the Collegiate 8+. The Engineers crossed the finish line in 13:15.715 while the 2V edged out Trinity College "B" by 1.496 seconds (13:53.404 – 13:54.9) to capture ninth place. The 3V finished almost five seconds ahead of WPI "B" to claim 14
th place in 14:10.872.
