Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 14 Women's Soccer Falls to Emerson, 1-0

THE BASICS:

- Score: Emerson - 1, MIT - 0

- Records: No. 14 MIT (11-4-1, 6-1-0 NEWMAC), Emerson (8-2-3, 5-0-1 NEWMAC)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field)

- The Lead: In a match-up between two teams with no losses in conference play, the visiting Emerson Lions came away with a victory as they defeated the No. 14 MIT women's soccer team, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon on Roberts Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Lions took a 1-0 lead as Katie Wojick sent a corner kick into the front that deflected to the waiting Brittney Righetti who lifted the ball over the leaping hands of senior Ava Gillikin (Flemington, N.J.) at the 23:29 mark.

- MIT looked to even the score in the 20th minute when senior Stephanie Howe (Geneva, Ill.) sent a pass into first-year Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.), but the Emerson defender snuck in and deflected the ball away.

- The Lions' defense once again thwarted an Engineer scoring attempt in the 13th minute when junior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) was looking for an open Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) but the pass was kicked away.

- On a corner by sophomore Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.), the Engineers looked for the equalizer with just under a minute left, but the header attempt was deflected out of play. MIT put on the pressure in the waning seconds but could not find the game-tying score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Engineers outshot Emerson 13-4 and held a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal. MIT also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

- Gillikin moved to 4-3 on the season and Amara Schaub made five saves and improved to 7-2-3.
