- The Lead: The No. 14 MIT women's soccer team earned its third win over a top-25 team as the Engineers blanked No. 21 Trinity, 1-0 on a foggy and rainy night in Hartford, Connecticut.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bantams controlled the tempo in the first half, as they outshot MIT 7-2. Senior
Ava Gillikin (Flemington, N.J.) made four saves in the first 45 minutes of play to keep the game scoreless.
- MIT turned it around in the second half and broke the scoreless tie as sophomore
Lauren Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) sent in a corner kick that was booted around in front of the cage before junior
Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) got control of the ball and put it past Trinity keeper
Mariana Cournoyer at 52:28.
- The Bantams looked to even the score in the final minute, but the shot by
Hannah Storozuk sailed high as the Engineers took the 1-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Rowlett scored her team-leading eighth goal of the year and leads the team with 19 points.
- Gillikin and senior
Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) combined for the tenth shutout win for the Engineers this season. Gillikin was credited with her fifth win, while Castle made three saves in the second half.
- The Bantams held the advantage in shots (14-9), shots on goal (8-6), and corner kicks (9-4).
