MIT and WPI Play to 0-0 Tie

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 0, WPI - 0
 
- Records: No. 21 MIT (12-4-2, 6-1-1 NEWMAC), WPI (5-6-3, 1-3-3 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: Worcester, Mass. (H. Carr Field)
 
- The Lead: The No. 21 MIT women's soccer team played WPI to a 0-0 tie on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- The two NEWMAC rivals had numerous opportunities in the opening 45 minutes of play to score. Graduate student Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) looked to give MIT a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, however, her shot rang off the crossbar.
 
- MIT's offense continued to pressure WPI with nine straight shots to open the second half. Junior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif) had two shots and Groff had three more chances at a goal.
 
- After a few more chances in the final minutes, including one from sophomore Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) off a corner, the match ended in a 0-0 tie.   
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Senior Ava Gillikin (Flemington, N.J.) got the start in goal and registered three saves to move to 5-3-1. Junior Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) made one save in her 45 minutes of action.
 
- MIT held the advantage in shots (17-10) and shots on goal (11-4) as well as corner kicks (6-5).
 
- For WPI Lili Hellerman made 11 saves in goal.
 
UP NEXT:
 
- The Engineers head back to Roberts Field for their final regular home game of the season against Coast Guard on Saturday, October 22nd. Before the 1 p.m. match, MIT will honor its Senior Class.
