Â
- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon, the MIT football team dropped a 21-11 road final at Norwich University as the Cadets defeated the Engineers for the first time since NEWMAC play began.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- MIT got on the board first as sophomore
Nico Bulhof (Bryan, Texas) connected on a 26-yard field goal with 9:13 left in the first for the early 3-0 edge. The Cadets answered immediately on their next offensive play when
Mitchell Theal connected with
Trevor Chase for a 79-yard touchdown and the 7-0 Norwich advantage.
Â
- The Cadets added to the lead midway through the second as Theal found Chase in stride near midfield and Chase did the rest for the 14-3 NU lead. MIT did threaten late in the first half, but junior
Marco Cesaratto (Falls Church, Va.) was intercepted by
Matthew Christe at the one-yard line as the game went to the break at 14-3.
Â
- The third quarter was nearly scoreless, but it was the Engineers and junior
Brady Klein (Washington, Ill.) that found the end zone as Klein went untouched up the middle from 20 yards out to cut the lead down to 14-9 with three seconds left in the third. MIT went for the two-point conversion and it was Cesaratto who ran to the left and in to send the game into the final 15 minutes at 14-11 in favor of the Cadets.
Â
- Norwich made it a double-digit lead again with 7:11 remaining in the game as
Nate Parady scored off the right side from three yards out for the 21-11 advantage. Parady got the Cadets inside the five on the previous play as he fought through the line down to the three.
