Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 12 MIT Tops Clark, 3-0, in Field Hockey

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 12 MIT 3, Clark University 0

- Records: No. 12 MIT (8-3, 3-1 NEWMAC); Clark (5-6, 1-3 NEWMAC)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Granger Field)

- The Lead: Three different players found the back of the cage in No. 12 MIT's 3-0 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC field hockey game on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After a scoreless first quarter during which MIT had an 8-0 advantage in shots and was awarded three penalty corners, the Engineers broke through in the 22nd minute. On their second penalty corner of the frame, first-year Bailey McIntyre (Concord, Mass.) dribbled the ball from inside the top of the arc to the far side and then passed it to sophomore Ashley Lederman (Villanova, Pa.) who sent a strike to the near post.

- MIT extended its lead in the 42nd minute during a penalty corner. After collecting the injection from sophomore Avani Narula (Malvern, Pa.), sophomore Jordan Dattero (East Setauket, N.Y.) unleashed a shot that was deflected up in the air and wide of the far post. Senior Liberty Ladd (Falmouth, Maine) quickly tapped the ball past Clark goalie Loren Root for the score.

- First-year Marissa Liu (Chesterfield, Mo.) provided the final goal of the night in the 49th minute. Sophomore Alice Zehner (Gladwyne, Pa.) sent a pass from the near sideline into the arc. Liu corralled the ball in front of the goal, and after her initial shot was saved, she chipped the rebound over Loot into the top of the cage.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Senior Kiely Smiga-McManus (Etna, N.H.) and sophomore Anna Duncan (St. Louis, Mo.) shared goaltending duties for MIT and neither was forced to make a save. Clark's only attempt at net was a shot that went wide in the 35th minute.

- The Engineers led the way in shots (26-1), shots on goal (12-0), and penalty corners (15-0).

- This was the first time this season MIT did not concede a penalty corner and the second time it allowed one shot. The Engineers also recorded their fifth shutout of the year.
