Men's Basketball Picks Up 74-67 Win Over Rhode Island College

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT 74, Rhode Island College 67
 
- Records: MIT (1-1); Rhode Island College (1-1)

- The Lead: Led by 22 points from first-year Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) and 56 percent shooting from three-point land, the MIT men's basketball team picked up a 74-67 road victory at Rhode Island College in non-conference action on Thursday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- The two teams started out evenly and after a three from Minicozzi with 9:04 left in the first, the Engineers held a narrow 22-21 advantage over the Anchormen. Rhode Island College led by as many as six points in the half before the Engineers closed on an 8-1 run following a three from Minicozzi and a jumper by first-year Parker Spann (Omaha, Neb.).
 
- In the second, both teams battled back and forth as the Anchormen built to a 54-51 edge with 12:45 on the clock before the Engineers answered. From there, MIT used three-pointers from Minicozzi, first-year Rome Delgado-Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) and Spann to take a 60-56 advantage.
 
- RIC briefly tied the game at 65-65 on a three-point play by Shion Darby before MIT closed the game on a 9-2 run over the remaining 5:26 to secure the victory. Sophomore Kade Killeen (Austin, Texas) put the Engineers up by five with a three-pointer from the top of the key, followed by four MIT free throws to wrap things up.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Minicozzi led MIT with 22 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including 6-for-9 from three-point land. Delgado-Gonzalez posted 20 points and six rebounds, along with a 10-point, 10-rebound, seven-assist performance from Killeen. Spann nearly had a double-double as well with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
 
- For RIC, Ousmane Kourouma led the way with 19 points, 20 rebounds and seven blocks. Darby was the only other RIC player in double figures with 19 points and seven rebounds on 6-for-23 shooting.
 
- MIT outscored the Anchormen 42-12 from three-point land, while RIC held a 15-4 edge at the free throw line. The Engineers ended up with 20 assists on 28 made field goals and RIC had a 48-38 rebounding advantage.
