Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- MIT got on the board quickly as graduate student
Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) sent a pass into the front of the cage, where junior
Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) tipped it in for the goal at 6:07.
Â
- Groff had an excellent chance for a goal as she went one-on-one with Gryphons' keeper
Bridgett Lee. Lee came out of the cage to contest the Groff shot, but a Sarah Lawrence defender came over and cleared the ball away from the vacant goal.
Â
- Rowlett made it 2-0 Engineers at 19:08 as she dribbled down the far side and fired a shot that went off the hands of Lee and into the back of the goal at 19:08.
Â
- Lee made a point-blank save on a shot from sophomore
Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis. ) in the 60th minute to keep it a 2-0 match.
Â
- The NEWMAC Co-Defensive Athlete of the year, junior
Julia Chen (La Jolla, Calif.) scored her first goal of the year in the 74th minute off a corner kick from graduate student
Gillian Schiffer (Arlington, Va.).
Â
- Junior
Lexi Spinetta (Austin, Texas) made it a 4-0 MIT lead off a pass from senior
Ceci Muñoz (Maplewood, NJ) in the 77th minute. Â
Â
- MIT got goal number five at 80:20 when Schiffer came down the middle of the field and put the pass from first-yearÂ
Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) into the goal.
Â
- Luk wrapped up the scoring for the Engineers at 87:26 as she went down the near side of the field and put a shot that went off of Lee's fingers and into the goal. Â
Â
