Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hinkley Sets Three-Point Mark in 91-71 Road Win at Coast Guard

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 91, U.S. Coast Guard Academy 71

- Records: MIT (12-8, 5-5 NEWMAC); U.S. Coast Guard Academy (5-14, 2-8 NEWMAC)

- Location: New London, Conn. (Roland Hall)

- The Lead: After a close first half between the two teams, the MIT men's basketball team outscored Coast Guard by a 48-31 margin the second period to push to a 91-71 road victory over the Bears on Saturday afternoon. In the win, senior Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.) set the MIT career record for three-pointers made as he had tied the mark earlier in the week at Springfield. The previous record of 288 was set by Jamie Karraker '12 as Hinkley had tied that mark in the team's win at Springfield earlier in the week.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Engineers staked to a nine-point advantage over the first 9:10 of the game, including two free throws at that point by senior Dan Pilsbury (Millington, N.J.) to give MIT a 22-13 edge. MIT continued to lead by seven at 43-36 following a three from first-year Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.) before a jumper and two free throws by Jarrod Jackson got the hosts to within three at the half.

- In the second, a layup from Garrett Drummond put the Bears in front for the second time and the first time since the early minutes at 48-47. Following a first-year Kade Killeen (Austin Texas) three for MIT that put the Engineers in front for good, the visitors went up by double digits at 65-55 on a Pilsbury layup and later built the edge to 20 with a jumper by junior Alex Cho (San Diego, Calif.).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Cho paced the Engineers with a near double-double at 24 points and nine assists on 10-for-16 shooting from the field. Pilsbury posted a near double-double as well with 18 points and nine rebounds, along with 10 points and seven boards by Hinkley. In addition, junior Tim Kostolansky (Walnut Creek, Calif.) was outstanding again off the bench with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting in 15 minutes.

- For the Bears, Drummond led the team with 18 points with 13 by Jackson and Declan Rooney. Tyler Perez picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
