- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon, the MIT baseball team dropped a road NEWMAC doubleheader to Babson College as the Engineers fell by scores of 8-3 and 8-2 at Govoni Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:

- Babson took an early 1-0 lead as
Thomas Lapham led off with a double down the right field line and later scored on a
Josh Yellen single to right center. MIT answered right back in the top of the second when senior
Cory O'Shea (Glen Allen, Va.) drove in senior
Nick Aiello (Freehold, N.J.) to tie the game at 1-1.

- The Beavers added a single run in the second, along with three in the third as
Walter Sadowsky's two-RBI double down the right field line made it a 4-1 game.
Andrew Dembowski had an RBI single to left and the score was 5-1 after three innings.

- O'Shea led off an inning with a solo homer for the second time in as many days to cut the margin to 5-2 in the fifth. The score remained that way until the top of the seventh when junior
Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) doubled to right center to score sophomore
Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) and make it a 5-3 game. The Beavers held off the MIT rally though with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to account for the 8-3 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Kyle Sonandres was again 2-for-3 at the plate to lead MIT, while O'Shea was 1-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Yellen lead the Beavers with a 3-for-5 game as Babson outhit MIT by a slim 9-7 margin.

Ethan Siegel (Austin, Texas) took the loss on the mound for MIT to fall to 0-2 overall, while
Tim Noone went 6.2 innings for Babson in the start and is now 6-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:

Jackson Kelly got the Beavers on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-out, two-RBI double to right center for the 2-0 lead.
Justin Guest added to the lead in the third with a solo homer down the left field line before sophomore
Michael Finch (Brentwood, Tenn.) drove in Schoenfeld for the Engineers as the game was 3-1 Babson after four innings.

Patrick Manning extended the Babson lead to 5-1 in the fifth with a two-run homer to right field, while the Engineers added a single run in the eighth as
Kyle Sonandres drove in O'Shea to make it 6-2.
Francis Kiely closed out the scoring with a two-out, two-run homer in the eighth for the 8-2 score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Ajinkya Gundaria (Alpharetta, Ga.) took the loss for MIT to fall to 0-2, while
Tristen Spalter went the distance for Babson to move to 5-2 as he scattered seven hits over nine innings with two runs allowed and five strikeouts.

- Schoenfeld and Finch each finished the game with two hits apiece, while Kelly led the Beavers with a 3-for-5 game with two runs batted in.
