- The Lead: In a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, the MIT baseball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Southern Maine. The Engineers fell 10-4 in game one, followed by a 10-3 final in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:

- In game one, the Engineers got on the board first as first-year
Malachi Soqui (Castaic, Calif.) singled to right to score junior
Jake Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.). USM took a 5-1 lead through four though as the Huskies were led by a two-RBI single down the left field line by
Tom Vesosky in the second.

- Junior
Erik Anderson (Palos Verdes, Calif.) answered for MIT in the in the fifth with a two-RBI double to right and sophomore
Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) tripled to right center to plate first-year
Brian Rapanan (Gurnee, Ill.) to cut the lead to 5-4. The Huskies scored five in the sixth though, including a three-run homer from
Jonathan Wilson for the 10-4 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sonandres led the Engineers in game one as he was 2-for-3 and Anderson continued his hot streak with two runs batted in. Wilson was the offensive leader for USM as he was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in.

- First-year
Ethan Siegel (Austin, Texas) took the loss in two innings pitched for MIT and is now 0-3, while
Matt Burnett earned the win and improves to 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:

- In game two, USM took an 8-0 lead through three innings behind a two-RBI single to left center by Wilson in the second. Anderson homered to left for the Engineers for his third home run of the season of the season and first-year
Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Texas) posted a two-RBI double down the left field line in the fourth as the Huskies took the game two win by a 10-3 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Anderson finished game two 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, along with a 2-for-3 from Tubbs with two RBI.

UP NEXT:

- MIT is scheduled to travel to Worcester State on Tuesday, May 3rd for a 3:30 p.m. start in the final regular-season game. The Engineers will then enter the NEWMAC Tournament on Thursday, May 5th as the team travels to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for a 3:30 p.m. first-round game in New London, Conn.
