Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 6 Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Setback to CMS

THE BASICS:

- Score: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges - 1, MIT - 0

- Records: No. 6 MIT (3-1-1), CMS (1-3)

- Location: Manchester City, Vt. (Applejack Stadium)

- The Lead: The sixth-ranked MIT women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to Claremont-Mudd Scripps Colleges on Saturday afternoon in the Manchester Women's College Cup. The loss is the first regular season non-conference loss for the Engineers since September 26, 2018, against Tufts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT controlled the tempo in the first half before Laurel Ovenell sent a corner kick into the front of the net where Annie McKinley headed the ball into the corner of the net at 31:54 to put CMS up 1-0.

- Neither team got much going in the second half with only CMS putting a shot on cage. MIT looked to tie the match in the final few seconds but attempts from first-year Shreya Kalyan (Troy, Mich.) and sophomore Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) went wide and CMS held on for the 1-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Engineers outshot the Athenas 12-6 with CMS putting two shots on net while MIT only got one on target.

- CMS held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

- Senior Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) made one save in goal and fell to 3-1-1 on the season.
