No. 18 Women's Soccer Controls Match in 5-0 Win Over Mount Holyoke

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 5, Mount Holyoke - 0
 
- Records: No. 18 MIT (7-1-1, 2-0-0 NEWMAC), Mount Holyoke (1-6-0, 0-2-0 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: South Hadley, Mass. (MHC Soccer Field)
 
- The Lead: The No. 18 MIT women's soccer team got goals from five different players as the Engineers took care of Mount Holyoke College, 5-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Sophomore Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) got the Engineers on the board at the 14:03 mark to make it a 1-0 game as her corner kick curled into the back of the net.
 
- Sophomore Nikki Elliott (Arlington, Heights, Ill.) set up senior Brigette Wang (Clarksville, Md.) for her first goal of the year at 38:50 to put MIT up by two.
 
- In the 53rd minute, junior Lexi Spinetta (Austin, Texas) took a pass from graduate student Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) and found the back of the net to increase the Engineers' lead to three.
 
- MIT closed the game with goals in the final six minutes. First-year Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) scored at 84:21, and a few minutes later, senior Ceci Muñoz (Maplewood, N.J.) took a pass from first-year Alice Vranka (Bronxville, N.Y.) to make it 5-0 at 86:24.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- The MIT defense did not allow Mount Holyoke to register a shot while the offensive attack put up 32 shots with 15 on goal.
 
- Corner kicks were 13-0 in favor of MIT.
 
- Senior Ava Gillikin (Flemington, N.J.) earned the victory in goal as she played the game's first 75:29 minutes. Junior Morgan Everett (Danville, Pa.) played the final 14:31.
 
- Luk is now tied for second on the team with four goals and ranks third with nine points.
 
UP NEXT:
 
- It will be a matchup of top-20 teams on Tuesday, September 27th as the Engineers will welcome No. 7 Tufts to Roberts Field for a 4 p.m. contest.
