- The Lead: In the 2022 season opener, the MIT football team rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to quickly rebound and power to a 35-20 road win at Curry College on Friday night.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- The Colonels got on the board first with 8:56 left in the opening quarter as they converted a blocked punt into a five-yard touchdown pass from Justin Mullaney to Gabe DeSouza for the 6-0 edge as the PAT was blocked.
 
- MIT answered with a blocked punt by first-year Lucky Deignan (Indianapolis, Ind.) that was recovered in the end zone for the 7-6 edge. The Engineers forced a fumble early in the second as well and three plays later, junior Brady Klein (Washington, Ill.) scored on a two-yard TD rush to the left side to extend the advantage to 14-6.
 
- With 6:08 left in the second quarter, MIT senior Ashton Robinson (Louisville, Ky.) found the end zone from 15 yards out just inside the pylon to push to a 21-6 MIT edge, but the Colonels answered with a 31-yard pass from Mullaney to DeSouza to make it a 21-13 margin at the halftime break.
 
- MIT again extended the lead as senior Dennis Gastel (Lincoln, R.I.) returned a Curry punt 37 yards to the Curry 14-yard line and senior Jay Theriault (Boxford, Mass.) rumbled in on the next play for the 28-13 lead at the 9:57 mark.
 
- Theriault scored again from three yards out on the next drive after a Curry fumble was returned to the three-yard line by MIT sophomore Daniel Monaghan (Northfield, Minn.) to set up the score. The Colonels also scored a late TD with 15 seconds on the clock as Maxx Bell pulled in an 11-yard pass from Mullaney for the 35-20 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Overall, the Engineers led the way in total offense with a 268-186 margin to go along a 228-54 situation in rushing.
 
- For MIT, 2021 NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Year Paul Calvetti (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the Engineers with 10 total tackles, while Curry's Michael Sims had a game-best 15 tackles. Overall, the Engineers blocked three kicks and forced two fumbles, including a pair of blocked kicks from graduate student Sam Gozelski (East Northport, N.Y.).
 
- Robinson led MIT with 86 yards and one touchdown, while Theriault finished with 81 yards and two touchdowns.
