- The Lead: Four different goal scorers helped lead a balanced attack as the sixth-ranked MIT women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over visiting Lesley University on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Graduate student
Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) got the scoring started for the Engineers as she broke through the Lynx defense and sent a shot into the far corner for her fourth goal of the season.
- After Lesley committed a foul in the box, senior
Reese Alley (Columbus, N.C.) stepped up for the penalty kick and converted for her first collegiate goal at 29:23 to give the Engineers a 2-0 advantage.
- The Lynx came out quick in the second half looking for a score, but both their early half changes were saved by senior
Ava Gillikin (Flemington, NJ).
- Sophomore
Lauren Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) recorded her first collegiate goal at 78:28 as she headed in the corner kick from first-year
Leena Mehendale (Dallas, TX) to make it a 3-0 lead.
- First-year
Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) continued the trend of Engineers recording their first goal as she took a pass from classmate
Alice Vranka (Bronxville, NY) and tapped it into the back of the net with 11 seconds remaining in the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- MIT outshot Lesley 19-6 and held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
- Senior
Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) improved to 3-0-1 with one save in 45 minutes of play. Gillikin played the final 45 minutes and made three saves in the contest.
