- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon in the battle of the Engineers, No. 16 ranked WPI defeated MIT by an 88-40 final in NEWMAC play at Rockwell Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The teams started the game evenly as MIT first-year
Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) knocked down a three-pointer with 15:02 on the clock to tie the game up at 8-8 in the early going. The game was tied again at 10-10 after a pair of free throws from junior
Kade Killeen (Austin, Texas).

- Following an MIT three-pointer from junior
Micah Boone (Pike Road, Ala.) that made it a 14-13 WPI lead, the Worcester Engineers held MIT to just two free throws and no field goals over the final 13:21 of the opening half. WPI took an eventual 45-16 lead into the halftime break after shooting 52.9 percent for the period.

- MIT shot 42.9 percent from the field in the second half, led by seven points from Minicozzi. WPI kept up the offensive pressure for the remainder of the game though to defeat MIT in the first of two meetings this season. The teams meet again on February 8th in Worcester.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Boone paced MIT with an 11-point outing, while Minicozzi added 10 points. WPI was led by 13 points from
Aidan Callahan, while
John Adams posted eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

- WPI held a 45-24 rebounding advantage, including 17-3 on the offensive glass.
