No. 9 Women's Soccer Holds Off Coast Guard, 3-1

The Engineers move to 6-0 in NEWMAC Play

- The Lead: The No. 9 MIT women's soccer team won its sixth straight game as the Engineers defeated Coast Guard, 3-1 on the road on Wednesday night. With the victory, MIT improves to 6-0 in NEWMAC play and has allowed just three goals in conference play this season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Junior Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) flicked a pass to the front of the goal where classmate Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) put the ball past Bears goalkeeper Emily Scharnitzky at 18:54 in the first half.
 
- Sophomore Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) sent in a corner kick to the front of the cage where junior Lauren Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) was able to head it in for the goal at 46:36 to put MIT up two goals.
 
- Coast Guard got to within one with a penalty kick goal by Mia Forti a short while later at 47:57.
 
- Barnouw gave MIT an insurance goal with her penalty kick goal at 66:30.
 
- Senior Morgan Everett (Danville, PA.) and the rest of the MIT defense held the Bears at bay as MIT took the 3-1 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Barnouw takes over the team lead in goals (7) and is tied with senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) for the team lead in points (17).
 
- Davis scored her third goal of the season and English scored her second.
 
- Luk is tied for the team lead in assists as she recorded her fifth helper of the season.
 
- Everett made two saves in goal and improved to 9-1-1 on the season.
 
- Scharnitzky made eight saves in goal for the Bears.
 
- MIT held an 18-6 advantage and a 12-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.

- The Engineers are back on the pitch on Saturday, October 14th when they will welcome Salve Regina to Roberts Field for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
